Hair Loss

hair lossWhat is hair loss?

Hair loss is, simply put, excessive loss of hair. Its medical term is alopecia. Ordinarily, it is known as baldness. In most cases, it starts in the form of receding hairline. Baldness is very common among the elderly people, but it is not limited to them. Baldness cuts across all ages, and all races. I know someone who is very young but has serious receding hair line. Without being told, I know this receding hairline will turn into baldness (i.e. if the right actions are not taken against it).

What causes hair loss?

There are a number of reasons why one might suffer from hair loss. They include androgenetic alopecia (hereditary hair loss), advancement in age, vitamin deficiency, ill health condition, hormonal imbalance, physical stress. Too much styling and excessive heat and shampooing can also cause hair loss. Hair loss can also be a post pregnancy effect, post-surgery effect, or as a result of weight loss.

Natural remedies of hair loss

It is natural and normal to lose some hair on a daily basis, say 50 to 100 strands of hair; but when you start to lose more than that, you might be having hair loss. You might not notice it at the initial time, but over time, the resultant effect will show. If you suspect that you have hair loss, you can try out some of the following natural remedies

- Oil massage: Massaging your scalp with the right oil goes a long way to alleviate hair loss. It promotes blood circulation, and reduces stress. Also, you need to use effective oils, not just any oil. Oils you can use for your scalp massage are coconut oil, castor oil, amla oil, almond oil, olive oil, wheat germ oil, emu oil, and argan oil. You can add a few drops of an essential oil like rosemary essential oil, to help facilitate the result.

- Onion or garlic juice: Onions or garlic juice has a high sulphur content which is naturally good for improved blood circulation and hair regeneration. It is also good for killing germs, parasites, and treatment of scalp infections. To get some onion juice, grate some of the onions, and strain; then you have onion juice. For garlic juice, crush some cloves of garlic and strain. Then you have your garlic juice. Apply it to your hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Then you can shampoo your hair.

- Aloe vera: This magic plant has some properties in it which helps to bring the scalp pH level to a more desirable level, thereby promoting hair growth. You can use rather aloe vera gel or the juice, the results are the same. Apply it to your hair and wash it off after some hours.

- Egg: Egg is a rich source of protein, iodine, sulphur phosphorous; all of which are good for treatment of hair loss. Simply beat the egg white mixed with olive oil. Apply the mixture to your scalp, allow it to seat for at least 30 minutes, then wash it with water. Be careful not to wash your hair with water warm enough to cook the egg on your hair. It is better to wash your hair with cold water to avoid any drama.

- Healthy diet: You might need to double check what you eat. Is it proper for your health? Or is it just filling up your stomach and then causing havocs to your health? Here are the things you should eat to help promote good health and prevent hair loss. Sun flower seeds, nuts, beans, eggs, potatoes, spinach, oat, carrot, beef, and salmon.
